"The 21st CENTURY IS A GREAT TIME to be a part of Jacksonville as we study our history, restore and renovate our downtown, and build on the strengths of our past and present for a future of great tomorrows."

So write Delores Barr Weaver and J. Wayne Weaver in their introduction to Jacksonville: Crown of the first Coast . Since bringing an NFL franchise-the Jacksonville Jaguars-to town in 1993, the Weavers have worked tirelessly to improve and promote their adopted hometown. J. Wayne Weaver serves as chairman and CEO of one of football's most successful expansion teams while Delores Barr Weaver is the chair and CEO of its offshoot nonprofit organization, the Jaguars Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars for disadvantage youth.

The Jaguars have brought a great deal of national attention to the city by winning two division titles and making four play-off appearances and two conference championship appearances, but the Weavers are quick to point that it's the people-not the team-that have made Jacksonville such a great place to call home. "The beginning and the end of a great community are its people," who are the visionaries and dreamers and the true spirit of hope."

Aided by hundreds of images culled from the area'' finest photographers, the Weavers invite readers to take a tour of the First Coast, featuring Jacksonville and all the area has to offer, from the beautiful St. Johns River to the state-of-the-art ALLTEL Stadium, home of the Jaguars. "We hope you will enjoy reading and learning about our great city," they write, "but more importantly, we hope you will experience the spirit of the city and its people as you travel through Jacksonville's streets and neighborhoods." With its thriving economy, dynamic population, and sparkling beaches, Jacksonville has truly become the crown of the First Coast.
