CLASSICAL STYLE
(Source of image: Florida Photographic Collection, Florida State Archives)
Is the identity of this pretty girl forever lost to time? She posed for her Jacksonville picture during the 1800s, according to the Florida State Archives. Of course, the costume and the hair decorations impart a Greco-Roman look. During Jacksonville's days as a sightseer's destination, perhaps she was a northerner who wanted to mail home a melodramatic portrait. Many photographers operated in the city, particularly along Bay Street downtown. They snapped a boatload of photos of visitors.
