  • BEACHES AREA -- PABLO HISTORICAL PARK -- Brief description of a very interesting museum complex in Jacksonville Beach.  Includes a 28-ton steam locomotive, a railroad depot, a restored 19th century house which was once the home of a station master. MAYPORT

 

  • MAYPORT -- HISTORY -- History of Mayport, Florida.  From the website for the City of Jacksonville Beach.  BACKGROUND INFO:  The community of Mayport is located at the mouth of the St. Johns River in Duval County.  During the early 1800s, Mayport was known as "Hazard" due to the dangerous, ever-shifting river channel.  After the building of a large sawmill, it became known as "Mayport Mills" in approximately 1849.  (This info is from page 323 of Jacksonville's Architectural Heritage, by Wayne Wood [1996].)
