BEFORE & AFTER SHOTS -- Here are a couple of
interesting images of Black Point, a riverfront spot on the St.
Johns. Probably dating from about 1930, the top photo looks to
the east. It shows Camp Foster, a National Guard base that became
a residential facility for homeless men during the Great
Depression. Foster was located on the site of Camp Johnston, a
World War I training site for quartermasters. The bottom photo
looks to the west. Dating from the period 1960 to 1967, it
depicts Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Runways now cover much of
the former sites of Camp Johnston & Camp Foster.
