(Source of picture: Florida State Archives) Someone scribbled on this postcard, "I am not in J., just happened to have this card." Dating from about 1909, the postcard features "The Palace of Industry" in Dixieland Park. During the early 1900s, the collecting of postcards may've been the most best-loved hobby in American history. In fact, postcards proved more popular during that time than even baseball cards in recent years. Many middle & upper income homes could boast of at least one postcard album in their front parlors. In order to build up collections of scenes from other locales, people in different towns often sent cards to friends & family members elsewhere. |
