These Jacksonville workers were installing a trolley track in about 1901.  Judging by their expressions, they seem pretty serious about their work.  Mounds of dirt line the right-of-way, showing how they dug into the street for the track's foundation. 

Look in the middle of the picture's background:  It appears as if someone was standing on a small tower that resembles a lifeguard's perch.  Perhaps he was either directing or surveying the project.
