"A 20-year-old Jacksonville beauty, Nancy Faircloth, was crowned the 1972 Florida Azalea Queen in colorful coronation ceremonies Sunday afternoon in the flower filled Ravine Gardens State Park – highlight of the 26th Annual Azalea Festival sponsored by Palatka Jaycees.

A five foot five, 110-pound part-time model with dark brown hair and green eyes, Miss Faircloth already had claimed the talent division trophy Friday night, topping 13 other beautiful contestants from all sections of the state.

A Florida Junior College sophomore, Nancy sang a comedy song from the hit stage show and movie 'Oklahoma,' a number entitled 'I Can’t Say No.'  Only previous title held by the Duval County native was Miss Andrew Jackson High School of 1970.  She entered the Azalea Queen competition under the sponsorship of Career Opportunities Institute of Jacksonville.  She also was runner-up in the Jacksonville Junior Miss Contest of 1968 and was second runner-up in the 1972 Miss Jacksonville contest. A striking brunette, she measures 35-23-35.”
