A CURRENT PERSPECTIVE

(Source of image: Photo taken by Website Manager, JacksonvilleStory.com)
It was an overcast
day with a brief, but furious rain storm blowing in from the northwest: Here's a
recent shot of the
Times-Union Performing Arts Center.
No doubt the area looks far better than the eyesore that used to be.
Fifty years ago, the site was covered by wharves, warehouses, and railroad
tracks. This July 2003 photo was snapped near the top of the 23-story Humana Building. The sleek Acosta Bridge
graces the middle of the picture, carrying motor vehicles and the Skyway monorail. In the distance is the Fuller Warren Bridge, part of the interstate
highway system. The tall structure in the upper right hand corner
is the CSX Building, and a small piece of the orange-roofed Jacksonville Landing can be
seen at the lower left hand corner.
