Does this lady look a little like Barbara Stanwyck to you? The 1948 photo was taken in a Daylight Grocery meat department in Jacksonville. The young woman is holding a Birdseye frozen food, while the signs advertise steaks, frankfurts, legs of lamb, etc.
During the 1950s, many people could finally afford good beef, according to the late Winn-Dixie leader, J. E. Davis, in his book Don't Make A & P Mad. This was largely due to the prosperity that Americans eventually experienced after World War II ended in 1945.
