(Source of picture: Florida State Archives) In 1921, a crowd climbs aboard a trolley car on Bay Street, outside the Jacksonville Railroad Terminal. Many of the people carry travel bags, and they may've been heading to their homes or to hotels downtown. When completed in 1919, the Jacksonville Terminal ranked as the largest train station in the South. It buzzed like a beehive, handling as many as 142 trains and 20,000 passengers a day. The old station has been remodeled into today's Prime Osborne Convention Center. |
