Trolley cars rolled along the Bay Street tracks in this picture.  However, they have been replaced by a rail along which Skyway monorail cars now glide.  This postcard dates from around 1910.  The Everett Hotel fronted on Bay between Hogan and Julia.  Today, it would lie just to the west of the Bank of America Building.  The Everett operated as "Florida's largest European hotel," according to an ad in the Florida Times-Union of February 9, 1908.  It boasted private baths, as well as "long distance phones in every room."

Cora's fiery husband, Hammond, owned a saloon in the hotel.  He also resided at the Everett, as indicated by the 1908 city directory.  Cora is listed as living at Court, and she likely maintained a room for her spouse there, according to Lillian Barnard Gilkes in Cora Crane.
