Purple & white flowers graced Cora Crane's tombstone in August 2003, when it was visited by the JacksonvilleStory.com website manager.  Perhaps the decoration was placed there by a group that conducts an annual tour of Evergreen Cemetery's most prominent sites.

Death is the great equalizer, and many of those interned near Cora would probably have been surprised to know that their final resting place was close to Jacksonville's most colorful madam.  Still, Cora's spot lays a few feet away from the other graves, since she doesn't have any kinfolk buried near her. (CLICK HERE to visit Stephen's New Jersey tombstone, as shown at the website FindAGrave.com.)

An old picture of Cora's grave indicates that changes have been taking place.  Stone or marble borders used to outline a small plot of ground in front of the marker.  The ends of these borders can still be seen near the monument, although they've been mostly obscured by grass.  As the white marble tombstone deteriorates, moreover, the inscriptions on it are becoming harder to read.
