In this depiction, a Timucua hunter sneaks up on several deer.  He hides under a deer cloak, a fur with the head, antlers, & legs still attached to it.

SKILLFUL HUNTING & FISHING -- The Timucua consumed a variety of animals, and they became proficient at catching them.

The main hunting implement was the bow & arrow.  Other tools & methods included the following:

*Spears

*Slings

*Atlatls -- A handheld device that slings a spear in a forward motion

*Snares

*Bolas  -- Ropes that are swung by a hunter over his head and then let go, catching an animal around its legs and entangling the limbs

* Clubs

* Deer-hunting disguises -- A deer fur that drapes over a hunter, hiding him under the dead animal's head, antlers, & legs

* Fire drives -- The use of ground fires to flush out such animals as deer, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, and raccoons

* Fishing hooks & lines (but no fishing poles)

* Harpoons

* Lassoes

* Nets

* Fish-weirs -- A trap for catching fish

One way that the Timucua probably utilized spears was to impale fish.  When schools of mullet & other fish ran close to shore, the Timucua may've darted after them.
