D-5
CENTRAL FIRE STATION
39 EAST ADAMS STREET
DATE:  1901
ARCHITECTS:  McClure & Holmes
BUILDER:  H. W. Otis

A 1944 remodeling of this building erased much of its original architectural appearance.  However, this building is historically important as the first fire station built in Jacksonville after the Great Fire of 1901 and as Downtown Jacksonville's primary fire-fighting center for over eight decades.
