CORSE BUILDING
(Greyhound Express Service Building)
426 WEST FORSYTH STREET
DATE: 1911
ARCHITECTS: McClure & Holmes
BUILDER: Lightman, McDonald & Company

This five-story commercial building was once a handsome part of the busy street scene along Forsyth Street.  Now it stands isolated by the demolition of its neighboring buildings and altered by "modernization" of its lower story.  Yet the fine detailing on the facade of its upper four stories is still noteworthy.  Limestone trim accents the windows, including wedge-shaped lintels on the three middle floors and keystoned arches on the fifth floor.  The building has a modillioned cornice, a stepped parapet, and interesting brick design.  It was constructed of reinforced concrete.  Montgomery Corse's wood, lumber, and coal business originally occupied this building in 1911.
