JONES BROTHERS FURNITURE COMPANY BUILDING
520 NORTH HOGAN STREET
DATE: 1926
ARCHITECT: Jefferson D. Powell
BUILDER: Griffin Construction Company

Jones Brothers Furniture Company was founded in 1902 as part of the business boom that followed the 1901 Fire.  It was owned by W. G. and Michael K. Jones, who employed their younger brother R. L. Jones to work in the store.  By 1910 the younger Jones started a rival company, Standard Furniture.  His business prospered, and in 1926 he built this new headquarters one story taller than his brothers' six-story building on Main Street.  Thirty-eight years later, his two sons bought out the Jones Brothers Furniture Company and merged it with Standard Furniture. They thus became the second set of Jones brothers to own the original business, bringing to an end the family rivalry.  This building was constructed of reinforced concrete and features Mediterranean Revival detailing at its upper level.  It originally had a suspended canopy over the main entrance.
