ARCHITECT & BUILDER: Unknown

A large number of houses built in Jacksonville before 1920 had no architect.  Although many people called themselves "architects," the Florida Board of Architecture, which licenses this profession, was not established until 1915.  Many simple frame houses were probably "carpenter houses," designed by the builder with a plain rectangular plan and often dandied-up with an ornate Queen Anne two-tier porch.  Often, these porches give the appearance of being simply tacked on to the front of the house, but this one shows more finesse, with its balcony encompassed under the frontal hip of the roof.  (See SP-25).
