SP-9 26 EAST SECOND
STREET DATE: ca. 1898 ARCHITECT & BUILDER: Unknown
John
P. Murphy was an engineer and foreman
at the T. G. Murphy Iron Works when this house was constructed as his
residence
in 1898. Its facade features a two-story, three-sided bay that
supports
a pedimented gable. The porch appears to have been altered.
Although not outstanding in its design, this house is significant as a
representative of Springfield's nineteenth-century residences.
