The central clock tower of the Grand
National-Everett
Hotel was one of
the most prominent points of Jacksonville's
skyline in the 1880's, and it
afforded a panoramic view of the city and
the river. In front
of it was an attractive park that extended
to the river.

In 1885 a 6-story addition was built on the
back of the hotel and faced
on Forsyth Street. This addition to
the hotel was sold to a separate
owner in 1898 and became the Aragon
Hotel.
Both hotels escaped
the Great Fire of 1901.
